Field Monitoring & Support Supervision Visit to Wau by Donor

AFOD is the nutrition implementing partner in Wau and Raga Counties (Western Bahr el Ghazal State) Supported by UNICEF (SAM & MIYCN) in collaboration with state government and other partners.

UNICEF Chief of Nutrition in South Sudan accompanied by other staff from Juba organized a monitoring and supporting visit to some of the Out Patient Therapeutic Program sites/facilities in Wau County like Sika Hadid PHCC nutrition site managed by AFOD South Sudan staff in Wau County, South Sudan. Outline below are the objectives to guide their visit.

  • To support the partners’ staff with gaps identification and On-Job coaching to ensure delivery of quality services to beneficiaries.
  • To assess the staffs’ compliance to policies and standards as per the South Sudan National protocols.
  • To find out whether the IPs are following and implementing the project according to the singed agreement with UNICEF.
  • To identify gaps the partners are facing in implementing the services and provide guidance.

Due to the Impact of Covid-19, field visit were restricted all over the nation to reduce human interaction and keep the number of infections under control hence the reduced number of field visits. However monitoring of partners and field activities has been conducted remotely.

Among others, below are the activities carried out during the visit

  1. Checking register books for compliance to the National protocol and the guideline for standards.
  2. Supplies chain management and stock reporting through (stock cards) and storage system at the OTP sites.
  3. MIYCN register use and its management by Nutrition Assistant.
  4. Checking monthly reporting data for proper Nutrition information system in regards to the requirements by the cluster.
  5. Checking on the integration of Nutrition programming with other sectors like Health, Wash and SGBV.
  6. Checking on the program implementation in context to Covid-19 SOPs developed by the clusters are in place at all the OTP sites
  7. Supplies deliveries alongside supportive supervision to centers visited by the team to sustained pipeline break
