World Breastfeeding Day 2019

Every year World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated from August 1 to 7 to encourage breastfeeding and improve the health of babies across the globe.

2019 World Breastfeeding Week was Launched on 1st August and ongoing till date under the theme

“Empower Parents enable Breastfeeding Now and for the Future”

AFOD South Sudan, UNICEF, and the State Ministry of Health and Environment together with the Community launched the “World Breastfeeding Week” on the 1st in Wau, Bahr el Ghazal, South Sudan, and activities are ongoing till the last day.

The Following are the Key activities During the Breastfeeding Week

1. Nutrition counselling on Maternal, Infant and Young Child Nutrition (MIYCN)

  • Importance of exclusive breastfeeding in the first 6 months
  • Breastfeeding positions
  • Good hygiene practices Complementary feeding at months 6 months up to 24 months
  • Growth monitoring
  • Food variety
  • 2. MUAC screening in all the nutrition sites Celebration of World
    3. Breastfeeding week in Wau, Raga, Bud ,and Terekeka, South Sudan
