Celebration of World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) 2024

World Breastfeeding Week (WBW) is an annual celebration held every year from the 1st to — 7th of August in more than 120 Countries, aiming to inform, anchor, engage, and galvanize action on breastfeeding and related issues. In 2024, it focuses on the theme “Closing the Gap: Breastfeeding Support for All.” This theme emphasizes the need for inclusive and equitable support for breastfeeding across different communities and demographics, acknowledging the diversity of breastfeeding experiences among mothers worldwide. The campaign will highlight the importance of providing consistent and comprehensive support to all breastfeeding mothers, irrespective of their background, to ensure that they can successfully breastfeed.

In 2024, the AFOD team in the various field offices (Wau, Raga, Budi, Juba, and Terekeka Counties) joined the Ministry of Health Nutrition Department, in collaboration and support of UN agencies and Implementing Partners, has taken this annual event as an opportunity to join hands for advocating breastfeeding and educate the general public and working parents on the importance of breastfeeding as the best start of life for the children of South Sudan.
