Key Program Areas

For the last five years, the programs of AFOD have been oriented towards reaching an ideal state in which the society it serves is healthy, educated, productive, just, peaceful, and united. To realize this noble and ambitious vision, AFOD worked with the rural poor, marginalized, and vulnerable communities to improve their social economic status and quality of life through inclusive and sustainable project interventions.

The key six strategic programs that were envisaged to enable AFOD to realize its overall goal of contributing to the improvement of social and economic status and hence the quality of life of the people of South Sudan especially vulnerable children and women in hard-to-reach communities were:

  1. Integrated health services
  2. Nutrition, food security & sustainable livelihood
  3. Environmental health (water, sanitation, and hygiene)
  4. Basic and vocational Education
  5. Social protection
  6. Institutional Capacity Building and Development

AFOD will continue to leverage the support, cooperation, and contributions of the Government of South Sudan, the different development actors, and partners in pursuance of the mission and objectives of the strategic plan 2021/2026. AFOD believes that the struggle to improve the socio-economic well-being of the most remote and vulnerable communities in South Sudan needs a concerted effort and participation of all stakeholders.

The new strategic plan (2021 – 2026) leverages the lessons learned and the success of the previous strategic plan (2015 – 2020), which focused on: improved access to integrated health services, improved livelihoods, improved food and nutrition security, improved environmental health services (WASH), improved social protection services, improved access to basic education services and increased institutional strengthening. The current strategy builds on what the previous one achieved and is intended to strengthen achievements AFOD made in the strategic areas of the last strategy country. The current strategy just like the previous one is modeled within the current and anticipated future context of South Sudan. The strategy is very much aligned with the key South Sudan Government priorities in the health, agriculture, food security, environment, education, and social sectors.
